[HEY]

I’m Gabriel Moniz, but most people just call me Moniz. I’m a Brazilian creative with a background in art direction and design. Currently working as a Senior Creative | Designer at Nubank.

What more can I say about me? I was born in October 1999 and raised in São Luís - Maranhão, in the Northeast of Brazil. I’ve lived in different towns across the state (I’ve spent most of my life in São Luís, and that’s where my roots truly are), which gave me the chance to grow up surrounded by a mix of cultures, from Bumba Meu Boi and reggae to Maranhão’s amazing food and strong urban and hip hop influences, especially from my time living in the Bequimão neighborhood (where my family – and I when goes to home – continues to live) .

My dad’s a visual artist (even if it’s just a hobby now), and my mom’s a pharmaceutical biochemist. Growing up between those two worlds, and with two sisters, I naturally picked up a bit of both: creativity and attention to detail. That mix sparked my curiosity, and by 16, I was already in college studying advertising.

Since then, I’ve explored a bit of everything: copywriting, radio production, short film scripting, editing, writing for websites, and eventually, I found myself in art direction and design. I still see myself as a student, always learning, always evolving.

I started my career 8 years ago in my hometown, but in 2019 I moved to São Paulo to chase new opportunities. Since then, I’ve been living between my hometown and São Paulo, navigating both worlds that shaped me. During this time, I’ve had the chance to work with global, national, and regional brands, alongside incredible people at agencies like AlmapBBDO, Africa Creative DDB, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Energy BBDO, Phocus, and now at the Creative Hub of Nubank.

Over the years, I’ve been lucky to earn some awards and recognitions too, like a Gold at the Cannes Young Lions Live Award in 2021 and being named one of the VOZES30 by Papel & Caneta.

Outside of work (but honestly, also inside it), I’m a big fan of stories, hearing them, telling them, watching them. I love music, music videos, live performances, stage design, sports (both the ones I play and the ones I follow), e-sports, games, live streams, YouTube content, movies, series... pretty much anything that screams entertainment. Especially when it has that Brazilian flavor.
